It was my first wedding of the year to kick off 2012, and right here in Abbeville. Jenny and Chris have been a joy to work with from engagements to bridals, so I knew I would enjoy shooting their wedding. The ceremony was at the beautifully restored St Mary Magdalen in downtown Abbeville. And the reception was right across the street, at the world famous Black’s. Jenny wanted rustic, southern louisiana charm, and that’s exactly what they got. Here’s what Jenny had to say about the overall vision for the Wedding and her favorite details:
“We wanted something really laid back and comfortable; something that everyone could really enjoy. We also wanted more of a rustic, southern Louisiana feel to the reception so I used a lot of raw materials such as burlap and Spanish moss. We also threw in candles on all the tables to add a warm glow. I loved the cake topper. I was able to find the two mallard ducks and his groom’s cake. He is an avid hunter so I really wanted to incorporate him into the wedding without it getting too cheesy. I think it all came together really well!”

I LOVE that she hung their engagement pictures in the aisle

For those who are not familiar with St Mary Magdalen, it’s breathtaking inside!

I love to shoot hands. They always have so much to say. Chris has a tight grip on his new bride and a supporting hand on her arm.

“One of the most special moments were our grandfathers being able to stand on the alter with us as we exchanged our rings. They were our witnesses on our marriage license, as well. They are both two very important men in our lives and we are so grateful they were able to spend our special day with us!”

And her advice to future brides: ”Start early so you can take your time! And delegate where you can. Enjoy it, because it really does go by so fast!”
